Heavy In the Streets Part 5 RIP DJ Smallz Review
by DigiPimp on Apr.30, 2006, under Reviews
No DJ Smallz hasn’t passed away but as far as DJ Scream and HoodRich are concerned his mixtapes in the south have. So there you get RIP DJ Smallz, the HoodRich crew has addressed the southern DJ on many levels in this latest mixtape and it sounds pretty good whether you feel the beef or not. So what’s the beef, well you can hear a little about it in various moments on the mixtape in between tracks, but I’m guessing they aren’t too happy with what they say is Smallz copying or stealing styles and ideas. Either way you can feel this mix pretty much from start to finish and it’s a strong statement for the crew from Hotlanta. (continue reading…)
Pimpalation Return of the Trill DVD Review
by DigiPimp on Apr.22, 2006, under Reviews
Unless you’re living in a cave then you already know that Pimp C is back on the streets. Pimp has been dropping lyrics and heat all over singles for every major southern rapper you can think of including himself and for upcoming UGK shit. The first big thing to hit the streets since he’s been out is the Pimpalation DVD that’s been out for a little less than 2 weeks now and I got my copy courtesy of The Mixunit this weekend. So you know I’ve already watched that shit like 3 times because it’s the Return of the Trill and here’s the Trill review from GrippinGrain.com with pics!
So what is the Pimpalation DVD you’re wondering. Obviously it’s Pimp C but it’s also the story of Pimp C and UGK from the start, inside prison and after the release. It’s got videos from all the latest hot singles that are getting dropped with TI, Lil Flip, Z-Ro, (continue reading…)
Southern Smoke 25 Review
by DigiPimp on Mar.29, 2006, under Reviews
Well it’s time to welcome home Pimp C and he seems to be the one welcoming us back to some good southern rap that we all had been looking for. Straight out the door and after some time with his people and family the man was back in the studio hard throwing down tracks and remixes with all the heavy hitters in the south. And that definitely includes his old partner Bun B, yeah UGK is back and Southern Smoke 25 has a heavy dose of some of these remixes and Pimp C himself throwing rhymes down to tracks with everyone from TI to Trae or even old school southern head Lil Keke. Both Sides of the Boards -Mixtape Review
by DigiPimp on Jan.26, 2006, under Flows, Reviews
So my man just dropped his new mixtape, Both Sides of the Boards, Bruce Takara vs Bruce B and I got the download last night and have been listening throughout the day while I do updates and shit. Let me drop a little review for you and share it with all of you out there. My man is doing some nice stuff and I think you’re going to enjoy it, I know I was suprised at how good it turned out to be.
Mixtapes are always the way to get the latest shit to hit the streets and it’s my main source of music these days. I’ve given up on buying overproduced bullshit from the stores and paying their bullshit prices. I’ll cop a free mixtape or a $6 mixtape anyday to hear the shit that’s hot on the streets or about to be. So my man Bruce Takara AKA Bruce Bang has been in his studio trying to throw something fresh together and you can tell her put some work into it. This mix has got a little of everything not just hardcore southern hip hop. (continue reading…)
Devin the Dude – Richard Pryor Tribute
by DigiPimp on Dec.30, 2005, under Reviews
I know you all know who Devin the Dude is by now and even if you’re young you must have seen a Richard Pryor movie maybe even just on cable. For some of us a little older Pryor was the man even before Eddie came along and his movies were only after the stand up movies that I know I remember. Sunset Strip and his brief TV show even is all still fresh in my memory and he was a big influence on many of us and entertaining and thought provoking for the rest of us. So take a little time here and read what our southern boy Devin the Dude has to say and about how he was influenced and what he remembers most. RIP Richard Pryor. (continue reading…)
Houston Is Mine MixCD Review
by DigiPimp on Dec.26, 2005, under Reviews
You already know that your boy Lil Flip has been working on coming back harder than ever. Sure he took it too pop for the taste of most of us and he’s been doing the mixes and freestyles again that got him where he’s at today. Lil Flip hasn’t forgot what made him the freestyle king and what made Houston have the heat that is has now. So with an official Lil Flip production we have Houston is Mine, done with MixUnit.com, Big Mike and the Evil Empire and here’s a short review to let you know if it’s hot or not. (continue reading…)
UTP The Movement Vol. 2 Review
by DigiPimp on Dec.16, 2005, under Reviews
So one of the mix cd’s that I got hooked up with just the other day by my people at MixUnit.com is the DJ Ideal & Juvenile – UTP The Movement Volume 2. So I’ve been checking it out and threw it on my iPod so that I could peep it all day as I was driving around Dallas yesterday. So what impression did I get, well I’ll tell you it’s a hot mix and the beats are there, the lyrics are there and this one even has an edge because Juve has something to say about Hurricane Katrina, the people of the NOLA, the government and everyone else that was part or didn’t take part in the disaster. Eyez Above the Water Mixtape Review
by DigiPimp on Dec.06, 2005, under Reviews
So I just copped the new DJ Smallz mixtape or cd of course featuring Squad Up hosted by Lil Flip. You already know that Flipper is working on coming back hard after his major label album fell off at least to many of his fans from the dirty dirty. He’s been coming back and working the streets and mixtape circuits pretty hard and giving us a taste of what we all remember back when we became fans of his flow. This time with DJ Smallz he’s presenting his boys Squad Up the newest members of the Clover G’z record label and they’re out of NOLA. (continue reading…)
Bun B King of the Trill Mixtape
by DigiPimp on Oct.12, 2005, under Reviews
Oh yeah it says Bun B so I know ahead of time it’s going to be hot. I found this while browsing my boy Matt’s blog HoustonSoReal and I had to let you guys know about it so that you can cop it and rock it like I’ve been doing the past few days. A mixtape hooked up apparently without the permission of Rap A Lot but with Bun B coming hard reppin Port Arthur Texas and plenty of mentions to free Pimp C, Rapid Ric did it big with this mixtape. Bun B has already laced up the the hottest singles for all the big names in hip hop, it’s almost become mandatory to make your single big that you have Bun drop some bars on it. (continue reading…)
The Peoples Champ Album Reviewed
by DigiPimp on Sep.29, 2005, under Reviews
First I’ll let you know this is a review by AllHipHop.com of the Paul Wall album The Peoples Champ. I’ve heard it myself and I’ll let you know what I think also. AllHipHop.com gives the boy 3 and a half stars, I’m thinking 3 stars would be generous but then again maybe I’m looking at it from a different angle. I didn’t just hear of Paul Wall in 05, I’ve been listening to his stuff for a minimum of 4 or 5 years, probably almost since he first came on the scene if I was to think back further. I guess since it’s his major label debut he did it a little different than say a long time Paul Wall fan would be expecting. But overall it’s nice but not that hot to me and I like the boy alot. So check out what AllHipHop has to say and read their review. (continue reading…)
