Tats, Lil Wayne & Street Credibility

by DigiPimp on Jun.12, 2007, under Dirt

lil wayneSo its the trend right now to show off your tats. Its like every other rapper I see has tats showing off in his pics, magazine covers, videos, tv shows, album covers. But have you ever noticed most of these rappers with their hardcore gang style tats didnt get them until they got rich? Does that still give you street credibility or make you just another fake music industry marketing tool?

Name a rapper for me that has more tats now than he had before and tries to sell himself with some street credibility. I’ll start with Lil Wayne (can someone get this man a shirt), now you speak on this one for me ……..

If you want it to be about the music and your lyrical skills then don’t try to come at people as something you clearly aren’t, and never have been. (continue reading…)

by DigiPimp on Jun.06, 2007, under Dirt, Flows

tum tum dj smallz mixtapeSo I spoke with Tum Tum on the phone Monday since he’s got an album that’s about to hit the streets on the 26th of this month. He’s checking the site out and he’s getting ready to shoot a video with Grit Boyz and Trae in Houston but then he’s back to Dallas soon for his album release and more.

I can’t say what Im going to get setup for sure but Im trying to arrange meeting up with him and some of the DSR crew either at the release party, event or the next video shoot and asking him some questions and just letting him speak on what hes got planned for the near future.

While thats in the oven being cooked up he’s got a new mixtape with DJ Smallz called ‘Can I Live’ and I’ve got a link for you to download and bump that shit in your car this weekend. I’ll be back with more news and hopefully some exclusive video soon! Click on the pic to download the mixtape.

David Banner “9mm” & THAT CROOK’D SIPP

by DigiPimp on Jun.01, 2007, under Dirt, Flows

david bannerYeah now we can really talk about the south. Plenty of love for Texas but we’ve got some David Banner today and a link to download his new single ‘9mm’ with Lil Wayne, Akon and Snoop. Banner is still reppin for the crooked letter of Mississippi and has a lot going on these days including THAT CROOK’D SIPP.

Maybe you haven’t heard of it yet, but THAT CROOK’D SIPP is Banner’s own cartoon on the Cartoon Network Adult Swim. Banner addresses criticism by saying,

“People always try to put the responsibility of their children on everyone else,” Banner said. “Children shouldn’t be up that late anyway, but honestly, they probably need to watch my show and learn something. I live for controversy now because that’s what America wants. As much as they point fingers at everybody else, America is the most violent, lustful country in the world.” (continue reading…)

Lil Flips Reality Rap

by DigiPimp on May.31, 2007, under Dirt

lil flipSo the word on the streets is that Lil Flip is signing himself up for his own reality show called “The American Rapper.” Flip is supposed to be scanning several southern cities as well as cities across the rest of the country to find talent and the winner will get a 2 record deal, a chain and some cash. Sounds corny to me but I have to admit I watched the White Rapper Show, Flavor Flav and if I knew about the Paul Wall show I might even watch it.

So if you could pick a rapper that needs a reality show who would it be and why, or what would the name of the show be? Me I’d like to see Trick Daddy with a show or maybe even Pimp C for something real serious. I don’t think we’re far off from all reality tv all the time and rappers are always looking for attention and cash.

So if you want to keep on top of what Flip is doing and I wouldnt be surprised to see some video pop up about it on YouTube. Flip has his own channel CloverGtv and you can peep all the footage and coverage there. (continue reading…)

Lets Remember Big Hawk

by DigiPimp on May.12, 2007, under Dirt

big hawk screwed up click houston rapYou know the man Big Hawk from the Screwed Up Click out of Houston, the man who was murdered last year at the end of April and his death still remains a mystery. Well there are people that know what happened, people that aren’t talking and probably some people stuck on this bullshit Stop Snitching campaign and watching too much fucking BET.

Well this month Hawk’s album will hit the streets and his name better stay on the streets and we need to put this bullshit to an end. Yeah I can see not snitching on some things. I can see not trusting the police at times, but I can’t see letting senseless murders go without speaking up. So let’s remember the man who was about to blow up and the impact he had even though MTV doesnt talk about him. Read this article and check out a little video about Big Hawk and definitely cop his album this month! (continue reading…)

Chamillionaire Going Profanity Free

by DigiPimp on May.03, 2007, under Dirt

Exactly as the title says Chamillionaire says his upcoming album ‘Ultimate Victory’ is profanity free and he’s taking a stand on real lyrical content. Cham has always claimed to be a true lyricist so its not that big of a leap for him to go and do this. Check out the story and see why he says he’s doing it and what he’s planning to do for the future as he spoke with AllHipHop. (continue reading…)

What Does Bun B Think About Imus?

by DigiPimp on Apr.19, 2007, under Dirt

bun b imus nappy headed hoI’ll let the picture speak for itself courtesy of HoustonSoReal another deep hip hop blog that you should and probably are already reading.

I haven’t said much about Imus myself because I’d scare you and the truth is that I actually had been listening to his show and watching it for the last few years. Yeah Im not only deep into the music Im into the news. I don’t know what Bun B has to say about Imus but the shirt gives you an idea. Even better yet Imus would like the shirt and laugh at it. I wouldn’t have been surprised to see someone on his show wear the shit and tease him about it.

But really my quick take is all this attention is only further keeping us apart. Real people are used to real talk and if you heard the man he wasnt directing hate, he was just being stupid and made a bad joke and didnt hardly have a clue what he was saying. Can we focus on what we have in common more than what we dont have in common and stop wasting so much time on those who are keeping us seperated to their own advantage instead of fucking disc jokeys, comedians and actors! While we’re all on this the politicians are steady fucking all of us.

Southern Rapper Wins White Rapper Show

by DigiPimp on Feb.28, 2007, under Dirt

shamrock white rapper showYeah it’s true the White Rapper show I know you’ve been watching on VH1 was won by a southern rapper this past Sunday night. He goes by the name Shamrock out of the ATL and he won in the finale doing a live performace at the NYC club Hell beating out the other finalest John Brown. Like it or not but much of the reason why Shamrock was given the win was the current status of the south in the hip hop game. The south is large at the moment and Shamrock had his Paul Wall look and grill down and showed a lot of improvement during the season from start to finish.

However the win likely should have gone to the other man. He showed far more lyrical talent but as one of the judges said in the finale, lyrics dont matter any more. It’s sad that it’s come to that but I’m not sure I totally agree. Many of the southern rappers, well let me say UGK the southern royalty have some lyrical game as well as a few others like Chamillionaire, at moments Lil Flip and even a few of the lesser knowns. But really it was a gift to the south as a show of respect and a nod from the NYC and some old hip hop heads that the south is coming up and we’re not going anywhere anytime soon. Whether or not Shamrock makes it, he’s 100G’s richer and has a tv name to start building his career on, but the south is still going to keep blowing up for the near future.
