It’s Going Down 2 Mixtape/DVD Review

Alright so I finally got my hands on it and we can thank my boys over at ChopsMusic.com also the place where you can cop your own copy of the new mixtape/dvd. But I got my hands on the discs this weekend thanks to some fast shipping from them and here’s the run down on what’s up. First thing you’ll notice is a big picture of Bun B on the album artwork so you already know what you’re about to hear is going to be hot. Mix that in with Chops and the boy DJ Lt. Dan and you know you’re about to have a real banger on your hands with hot beats, dirty flows and sick mixing in and out of everything.
You’ll know I was a big fan of the first It’s Going Down mixtape and still listen to it regularly. So I couldn’t help but wonder if they could put something together bigger and better cause the original was fire. You’ll remember the first one had Bun B, Mike Jones, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Geto Boys, Trillville and more just to name a few off the top of my head. So a quick rundown on 2 revealed more Bun B, Magno, Paul Wall, Chingo Bling, Mike Jones, Webbie, Boosie, Young Jeezy and enough other guys to fill up a track list 20 songs long.
So I threw it in and started to listen and you could already tell CHOPS had hooked up some sick beats for all the mixes. Off the top with track #2 you’re right into a the hit Sittin Sidewayz with Paul Wall and the beat was hooked up to give it a little bit more flavor if you ask me. Something you could lean back and feel while you nod your head and sip. I kept listening and everything was hot, but nothing really stood out and grabbed me and my attention until I got to track #7. So you want to know what’s up with track #7, well how about Bun B’s song Draped Up but done with Chingo Bling, Lucky Luciano and Stunta. Just reading it I wouldn’t have known what to think about it, but hearing it, this song is by far one of the 3 or 4 best tracks on there. Chingo comes in right off the top giving it that southern and latin flavor with a deep bass hitting your head you can’t help but move.
So I keep listening and right off the very next track #8 catches me cause it’s some old school shit for those of us that are deep into the south. I’m taking about UGK – One Day. You can hear a little of the vocals in the back that bring you back to the UGK album that still hits as hard today as it ever did and that shit’s almost 10 years old now from the album Ridin Dirty. I remember playing that CD until it nearly wouldn’t play anymore and still listen to it day to day. So I had to hear this one, and it’s hard to touch a classic like this one but Chops gave it some flavor that you can respect as much you still can hear the old one playing in your mind as you listen. Definitely another hot track, and maybe for you younger guys just starting to feel the dirty south you’ll get a chance to hear some of the classics that helped make it what it is today. While I’m thinking about that let me say FREE PIMP C.
Track #13 24’s with Body Head Bangers, Bun B and Mike Jones is another standout on the mixtape worth hearing several times. Don’t forget the southern standout Icy is on here too and a few other UGK songs to bring it all back. Did It’s Going Down #2 touch the first mixtape, yeah it did and it exceeded it thanks in part to the bigger influence of Bun B and UGK which is Bun B and Pimp C for those of you that still don’t know.
But there’s a DVD too and the DVD is straight filled with concert footage of all the people you like starting off with Chingo Bling, showing rare concert footage, freestyles, pics and plenty more. So I’m telling you CHOPS, DJ Lt Dan and Bun B hooked this one up for real guys. We’re talking only $12 and it’s in your hands, the mixtape and dvd, plus some flyers and stickers and the bonus Rockstar games trailers and all of that shit. You can’t go wrong with this one, spend that money on real cats doing real things, not going down to the nationally corportate owned cd store of your choice and wasting $16 on something that doesn’t have but 3 tracks on it worth hearing and the artist might make $1 off of.
Get your hands on this shit at Chopsmusic.com and support real southern shit and they’ll keep giving us more and more and getting better and better. It’s Going Down 2 Mixtape/DVD is definitely worth the cash you’ll drop on it, check out a few of the tracks here on GrippinGrain.com for a minute and then go cop that shit!
